Leaders and youth, family, community workers from all faith communities in Anchorage are invited to this January 24th forum on "Safe Children, Healthy Families," sponsored by the Alaska Governor's Office, Alaska Children's Trust, and Alaska Resilience Initiative. First Lady Donna Walker will be there to welcome and participate with us.
Churches, synagogues, temples, mosques, ashrams, groups for meditation or prayer or ritual or conversation, all faith communities have a role to play in building up the protective factors in the lives of children, preventing child maltreatment and intergenerational and systemic trauma, and working in a trauma-informed way with those who are suffering from the effects of trauma. This forum will include a presentation on the science and principles of trauma and resilience, brief remarks by agencies that support safe children and healthy families, and a participatory discussion on what faith communities can do.
