Thank you Kris for the meaningful response. A valuable lesson our team learned last year is that the school's loved it when we showed up, but we became the crisis team to deal with issues that were happening during our time in the building. We learned that we were taking ownership and leadership away from the principal and the intervention specialist as they walked away. I have worked with a number of schools in South Dakota as an ACEs trainer, but I need additional training in strategies, practices, systems etc. There is no budget to bring in trainers to our state, so I am looking for something that I can sign up for, and attend to help increase my capacity to support schools and teachers. I did see that Saint A offers "train the trainer" tracks, which would be an option. Any other options out there? Any ideas? thanks so much! Pat

Well Said!!! Thank you for putting this out into the universe! I train teachers all across the country on the importance of feeling safe and being connected. There is research out there now that shows the impact that relationship has on academic outcomes, attendance, and behavior. Thank you, again for your powerful message!

In response I'd like to share this article about a program I work with: http://www.theatlantic.com/nat...-nonviolence/277893/ Not spoken in this article - is this dramatic change - a 90% reduction in violence and police calls - came from training only the adults in the building. Greetings All - I am jumping in as I have what may be a somewhat unique perspective on the topic of funding (or fueling) the work we are generally engaged in from within various roles. As a central office admin for 10 years I knew that content literacy (ie, reading, math, science, etc) was important. From a resiliency and asset management perspective, I also knew that learners impacted by trauma/neglect/ACE's were at a distinct disadvantage with peers who did not contend with such adversity.

Thanks for asking. I represent an Anti-Drug Coalition that is extremely interested in the PAX model. So I've signed up to catch all of the replies as we continue to train our school systems in ACES and TIC, and attempt to provide resources and next steps for them.

Ana - I just attended the ACE Interface Train the Trainers session in northern Michigan, and I asked whether Dr. Anda and Ms. Porter felt the "Understanding ACEs" presentation was appropriate for teens. Their counsel was that it is not, for a variety of reasons. So perhaps you may wish to make a follow-up contact with ACE Interface about the matter.

When I was a suicidal teen, I wish someone would have explained to me what was going on in my brain and that I wasn’t insane. I believe it is appropriate for teens -generally - maybe explained in a more general way like when you have these experiences and poverty and foster care and homelessness - your brain develops in a certain way and you will need support and to take special care.
