Trauma-Responsive New Zealand

Whakarongo mai whānau!

Listen to me!

Bad things happen to good people in NZ

Many families in New Zealand have been ruthlessly torn apart and desecrated by Oranga Tamariki, harming the very children they were tasked to protect.

There are many horrific stories that are hidden away from the general public because parents and children are so traumatized that they cannot speak up. They cannot share what they have experienced because it is so painful for them to do so.

Some parents do speak up. They are neither seen nor heard. People walk on by, they may stop and listen for a moment then they move on quickly, grateful that they are safe.

We judge and condemn them simply because we are ignorant and we do not take the time to listen with compassion

One day I stopped and I listened. I heard and felt justified pain, anger, frustration and grief.

As the story unfolded, I wanted to walk away. It was far more horrific than I ever imagined.

I kept listening. It was extremely hard. It was hard because this is a true story and it happened in NZ.

Sadly, there are so many stories of trauma inflicted by our government agencies.

Hard as it is, I have decided to write and share some stories with you so that you are informed.

We all have a responsibility to act with urgency for our children, for our future because healthy children grow into healthy adults that grow healthy communities.

We all need to feel that we belong, that we matter, that we are seen and heard.

To build healthy children, healthy adults, healthy families, healthy communities for ALL of us

Follow me and listen to the many stories of those who don’t make it to the media.

Listen to make a change.

Change is what is needed.

That takes action by ALL of us

I will be posting stories under the tag

Whakarongo mai whānau!
