Black-White Wage Gap Grows as Americans Remain in Denial [psmag.com]

Three new studies suggest racial economic inequality remains robust, despite the skewed views of many Americans. A new study finds Americans wildly overestimate the progress we have made toward racial economic equality. Ironically, this news comes days after other research revealed a growing wage gap between blacks and whites, as well as an entrenched hiring bias against African Americans. "These findings suggest a profound misperception of, and unfounded optimism regarding, societal...

When Parents Fear "It's All My Fault"

Many of my colleagues in the field of early childhood mental health work with what are termed "high risk" populations. Children of drug addicted parents, victims of child abuse, and families in abject poverty. While the challenges these families face are daunting, I find myself feeling some envy for my colleagues whose clients are in such obvious distress that the need for intensive treatment of parent and infant is not in question. In my rural, small-town population things are not so clear.

Photo: Ashley Edwards and Alina Liao at UC Berkeley School of Business after winning 2nd place at the 2016 Global Social Innovation Competition. In 2016, the 30 largest cities in the United States experienced a double-digit increase in violent crime. From reports of shootings in Chicago to gang-related violence in LA , the media is constantly flooded with stories of violence in our urban communities. The effect this has is numbing: most of the time, one doesn’t stop to think of the lives...

We found two of them and they will be the featured guests in the next Parenting with ACEs chat . Meet Charles Clayton Daniels, Jr. of Father's Uplift and "Trauma Dad" Byron Hamel. Both...

Why I’m Writing a Book About the Most Important Problem Facing Men and Their Families To [GoodMenProject.com] & Chat Reminder

Cissy's Note: The next chat is next Tuesday. The topic is Fathers & ACEs and it will be held live, here, at 10 AM PST/ 1 PM EST. Here's the link to the chat event. I’ve been writing books that help men and the families who love them since my first book, Inside Out: Becoming My Own Man, was published in 1983. Getting books published that focus on men is never easy. The perception in the publishing world continues to be that men don’t read books about men’s issues (unless it’s a sports...

Beyond Trauma: Building Resilience to ACEs (brochure)

Wish you had a fairly easy and short way to share all about ACEs? Wish it was in-depth enough to share with teachers, doctors, nurses and therapists but not so long or jargony it puts family and friends to sleep?
