To Your Health A 7-year-old told her bus driver she couldn’t wake her parents. Police found them dead at home.

I see ACEs everywhere now and I think about them all of the time. I think about them in relation to the children reported on in this article but also in relation to the parents.

It's disturbing to picture a child of any age finding a parent incapacitated or dead. And there are several examples of that in this story (so be warned).

But what's missing is talk about why there is so much drug use, abuse, overdose and even death. There is hardly any mention of why so many people are addicted to drugs to begin with and where and how to get affordable help or treatment.

How can we find cures and fixes for problems and issues when we aren't addressing root causes?  ACEs helps us get a better understanding and a bigger perspective below.

If you know of any resources for parents and families battling or recovering from addiction, please share.

Here's an excerpt from the story

For more than a day, the 7-year-old girl had been trying to wake her parents.

Dutifully, she got dressed in their apartment outside Pittsburgh on Monday morning and went to school, keeping her worries to herself. But on the bus ride home, McKeesport, Pa., police say, she told the driver she’d been unable to rouse the adults in her house.

Inside the home, authorities found the bodies of Christopher Dilly, 26, and Jessica Lally, 25, dead of suspected drug overdoses, according to police.

Also inside the home were three other children — ages 5 years, 3 years and 9 months.

The children were unharmed but still taken to a hospital to be checked out, then placed with the county’s department of children, youth and families.
