The Learning Network's Youth Advisory Committee presents: "Breaking the Narrative: Girls of Color Talk School Police"

JOIN US for an event by girls of color, about girls of color, in conversation with school police. The goal of the meeting is to gather ideas about solutions to make policing in schools safer for girls of color.

School-based police officers, also known as School Resource Officers (SROs), have become a growing presence in schools across the country. They have been associated with increased surveillance and criminalization of students—especially girls of color.

This event will include a panel discussion, break-out rooms, and shared narratives that explore the unique challenges created by the presence of SROs in schools, concerns about SRO misconduct in schools, and options for improving relationships between girls of color and SROs.

This panel will be moderated by one of the Learning Network’s Youth Advisors.

Panelists will include girls of color and police currently serving in schools.
