Join licensed counselor and award winning author Karla Helbert to gain understanding and new learning about supporting neurodiverse grief. Learn more about this most painful of transitions and how those with autism and intellectual disability may navigate loss. Gain new skills and inspiration as you support your neurodiverse clients and students through their experiences grief and loss. This session is for anyone who may be supporting folks with autism or ID--counselors, educators, parents,--as well as anyone identifying as neurodiverse. We'll discuss definitions and types of grief: what it is, what isn't and how grief may be different for neurodiverse populations. You'll leave with creative tools and strategies for support. Questions and sharing are welcome.



Karla Helbert, LPC, C-IAYT, E-RYT, YACEP, is a licensed professional counselor, yoga therapist, meditation teacher, award-winning author, and bereaved mother. Karla’s therapy practice has a focus on loss, grief and bereavement, working in particular with those affected by trauma and traumatic death. She leads classes, workshops and retreats for the bereaved as well as trainings for professionals on how to work with those impacted by traumatic grief. Her award-winning book Yoga for Grief and Loss is endorsed and used as a teaching tool by leaders, teachers and experts in the fields of yoga as well as grief and loss. She is also the author of Finding Your Own Way to Grieve: A Creative Activity Workbook for Kids and Teens on the Autism Spectrum, the 2013 recipient of the Gold Medal for books in the category of Grief/Death & Dying from Independent Publishers. Her book The Chakras in Grief and Trauma:A Tantric Guide to Energetic Wholeness is the currently the only book on the chakras focusing on the ways our energy bodies are impacted by trauma and grief.
