Please join us for “COVID Conversations: A Trauma-Informed Twitter Townhall®” event on Friday, May 8th between 8pm -9pm ET. Tweet your questions using #KPJRBookClub to receive real-time responses from the authors.

This virtual engagement forum will engage KPJR’s national and international network of trailblazing pediatricians, educators, mental health advocates, therapists, policy makers, social welfare professionals, parents and youth, and others who are eager to tap into the insights and best practices of our trauma-informed authors. Please join us. Donna Jackson Nakazawa

Donna Jackson Nakazawa is an award-winning journalist and internationally recognized speaker exploring the intersection of neuroscience, immunology and human emotion. She is the author of six books, including the 2019 book club feature: Childhood Disrupted: How Your Biography Becomes Your Biology And How You Can Heal.

Dr. Tina Bryson

Dr. Tina Bryson is a pediatric and adolescent psychotherapist, parenting consultant, and the director of parenting education and development for the Mindsight Institute. A frequent lecturer to parents, educators, and professionals, she lives near Los Angeles with her husband and three children. She is the co-author (with Dan Siegel) of the New York Times best-selling book and KPJR Book Club feature: The Whole-Brain Child: 12 Revolutionary Strategies to Nurture Your Child's Developing Mind.

Dr. Marc Schoen

Dr. Marc Schoen has specialized in Mind-Body Medicine for over 25 years. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCLA’s Geffen School of Medicine where he specializes in Boosting Performance and Decision Making Under Pressure and Mind-Body Medicine. He is the author of the KPJR Book Club feature: Your Survival Instinct Is Killing You.

 

Jim Sporleder

Jim Sporleder is a National Trauma Informed School Trainer and Speaker. He retired in 2014 as Principal of Lincoln High School in Walla Walla, WA.  Under Jim’s leadership, Lincoln High School became a “Trauma Informed” school, gaining national attention due to a dramatic drop in out of school suspensions, increased graduation rates & the number of students going on to post-secondary education.  He is the co-author (with Heather T. Forbes, LCSW) of the KPJR Book Club feature: The Trauma-Informed School:A Step-by-Step Implementation Guide for Administrators and School Personnel.

Dr. Heather Geddes 

Dr. Heather Geddes is an Educational Psychotherapist & has worked in a variety of settings in education and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. She currently works as supervisor, trainer & consultant and is an active member of the Caspari Foundation which provides training to teachers & others working with children whose learning is affected by social & emotional experience. She is the author of the KPJR Book Club feature: Attachment in the Classroom: The Links Between Children's Early Experience, Emotional Well-being and Performance in School.

Dr. Heather T. Forbes 

Heather T. Forbes, LCSW is the owner of the Beyond Consequences Institute. Forbes has worked in the field of trauma and healing since 1999. She is an internationally published author and speaker on the topics of raising children with difficult and severe behaviors, the impact of trauma on the developing child, adoptive motherhood, and self-development, including the KPJR Book Club feature: Help for Billy: A Beyond Consequences Approach to Helping Challenging Children in the Classroom.
