Alliance for Boys and Men of Color Network Call

Please join us on Thursday, February 27th at 11:00AM - 12:00PM PT / 2:00PM - 3:00PM ET for our monthly Alliance for Boys and Men of Color network call to hear from the RYSE Center on how and why they use radical inquiry to identify the needs and solutions within their community.

RYSE’s radical inquiry strategy aims to shift what research looks like, sounds like, and feels like with an inquiry process that is humanizing and moves toward liberation. This involves ongoing listening and responsiveness to the priorities, needs, and interests of young people of color (YPOC).

Radical inquiry requires and facilitates connection, proximity, and empathy.

Connection humanizes and itself can be healing. Proximity pushes us to stay responsive to YPOC’s immediate priorities and needs as they define them and to be adaptive when needs or conditions change. Empathy keeps us grounded and centered on YPOC’s experiences as they explore, define, and grapple with them. Meeting and loving them where they are and being there with and for them on their journey. Radical inquiry seeks to build and shift power so that we can build the systems we need and deserve.

On our call, you'll get a chance to learn from RYSE youth researchers and staff on how radical inquiry has guided their work to change systems and policies that impact young people of color in their community, including some of the examples below:

For Youth in My City, Marijuana Is the Go-To Treatment for Trauma

About RYSE:
In response to community violence and a need for safer, empowering spaces young people in Richmond, CA initiated and organized to create the RYSE Center in 2000. The RYSE Center serves youth ages 13–21 in Richmond and surrounding communities. Young people participate in programming that includes direct services, intensive case management and wraparound services; education and career advancement supports; leadership, organizing and advocacy; media, arts and culture; and health and wellness education. Since their founding, it has been RYSE’s charge and responsibility to ask young people whether RYSE's work is relevant and responsive to them, making radical inquiry a constant and integral aspect of their work. Radical inquiry has led to the design and development of RYSE Commons, opening in 2021. RYSE Commons will be a hub for healing, personal development, play, expression, incubating ideas, performances, art, launching businesses, exploring technology, connecting with universities and partners.
