To Our CASA Volunteers and Supporters,
We are very grateful for your support of our dinner and auction on September 17.
It is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and this year's was our most successful
yet. If you missed our Davis Enterprise column devoted to a recap of the event and
highlights of next steps for our organizational growth, please read it here [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...EXtsrPnSSXO63Iu-pg==].
It is also pasted below.
We thank you again for your heart felt support of foster children. Together, we
are growing to levels we've never reached, and WE HAVE NO DOUBT that we will someday
reach our goal of providing every foster child in Yolo County with a CASA volunteer.
Sincerely,
Tracy Fauver, Executive Director, Yolo County CASA

We are full of gratitude because on September 17, 2016 we hosted our most successful

dinner and auction yet, thanks to our generous community members. All proceeds will
go toward training Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) for foster children
to provide them with consistent and stable relationships, and ensure that their
voices are heard and their needs are met in the dependency system.
John Martin and Rafael Galiano again donated the use of their beautiful venue at
Park Winters to Yolo County CASA's annual dinner and auction, but the generosity
didn't stop there. Knowing that Yolo County CASA relies on private philanthropy
and grants to survive, individuals and organizations from all over Yolo County came
together to transform the lives of foster children.
Sponsors for the evening included Jim and Georgia Corbett, Christopher and Sharon
Steele, Kathy and Henry Thornhill, First Northern Bank, Greiner Heating and Air,
Sandy and Bob Lorber, Richard Mandelaris, DMD, Nugget Markets, Syar Foundation,
Sutter Health, Diane Makley, Van Dermyden Maddux Law Firm, Odd Fellows Lodge #169,
Rebekah Lodge #253, Davis Ace Hardware, Davis Food Co-Op, Yolo Federal Credit Union,
and Park Winters.
This outpouring of support comes at a critical time. At the auction, I told attendees
that five years ago we made a goal to provide every foster child in Yolo County
with a CASA volunteer, and we are on track to meet that goal based on the number
of kids who were in care then--about 250. However, what we did not know when we
set our goal, is that the number of children in foster care would more than double.
We are now at an all-time high of over 500 children in our dependency system, so
we need to work harder than ever to reach our goal.

The audience listens to stories about foster children and their CASA volunteers

This was followed by the "Fund a Need" portion of the event. Inspired, the audience
stepped forward. Attendees held up their bid numbers to pledge anywhere from $100
to $15,000 to aid in the recruitment, training and supervision of additional advocates
to meet the growing need. Individuals also donated vacation homes and other prized
possessions to the live auction on the spot.
Yolo County CASA has doubled its capacity in the past five years. To serve the current
amount of children in the dependency system, it must double it again. Research has
shown that children with CASAs graduate high school and attend college at higher
rates, do better in school than their counterparts without CASAs, are less likely
to be involved in delinquent behavior, and are more likely to be involved in their
communities as adults. Equally, if not more important, we see each day the profound
impact that having an unpaid CASA volunteer devoted to a foster child's well-being
makes for that child. All of a sudden, the foster child does not feel alone in a
system of many teachers, social workers, and legal professionals.
On the heels of the auction's success, recruiting more CASA volunteers is vitally
important. As

we grow our capacity to support our CASA volunteers, it is essential that we spread
the word. If you've ever even had an inkling to become a CASA volunteer, we urge
you to explore it further. It truly is an opportunity to completely change a child's
life when they need it the most.
Yolo County CASA's next volunteer training begins on January 16th. For more information

Yolo County CASA | 724 Main St. Suite 101 | Woodland | CA | 95695
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Executive Director Tracy Fauver (second from right) participates in an informational
briefing at the state capitol on the need to extend support to former foster youth
beyond age-based deadlines.
To Our CASA Volunteers and Supporters,
Summer is a resilient season. Amidst vacations and bright, sunny days, it's hard
not to feel revitalized and positive. In the spirit of resilience, we'd like to
take a moment to talk about the work we do at Yolo County CASA that revolves around
building resilience in a population (foster children) that has experienced great
amounts of trauma. You may have read about the ACEs study on our website [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...BPfwDf6ghsxZ4HuENA==]
or our executive director's column in the Davis Enterprise last month [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...BPfwDf6ghsxZ4HuENA==].
In a nutshell, research shows that individuals who have had multiple adverse childhood
experiences (ACEs) like physical, sexual, or verbal abuse, or physical and emotional
neglect, are at greater risk of having adult-onset chronic health problems like
heart disease, cancer, diabetes, suicide, emphysema, alcoholism, etc. than are their
peers with no ACEs. They were also more likely to have more divorces, more broken
bones, more drug prescriptions, and more autoimmune diseases. In severe cases, their
lifespans were up to twenty years shorter than average.
The good news is that even in individuals with multiple ACEs, negative outcomes
can be mitigated by high resilience. In fact, relationships are the leading factor
in helping children and adults with high ACEs scores become more resilient. Furthermore,
this is dose dependent, meaning the more positive interactions and relationships
an individual has, the more resilient he or she becomes. With resilience comes
stress reduction, and with stress reduction comes better health. As each individual
gets healthier, our communities thrive.
In light of this research, we are striving to build a more resilient Yolo County.
In partnership with many other nonprofits, we have been busy advocating and building
awareness at the state and local level. On the Big Day of Giving, we hosted a forum
with the Yolo Foster Care and Kinship Care Education Program. Last month, our executive
director participated in an informational briefing at the state capitol on the need
to extend support to former foster youth beyond age-based deadlines alongside Journey
House, Flintridge Center [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...BPfwDf6ghsxZ4HuENA==],
Youth Law Center [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...BPfwDf6ghsxZ4HuENA==],
and California Youth Connection (CYC).
CASA volunteers are cornerstones of resilience building. A CASA volunteer shows
foster children that they are important and cared about - that they matter! A CASA
volunteer illustrates that adults can be safe, caring, and loving. A CASA volunteer
supports the youth in strengthening their resilience despite the ACEs that their
foster youth has undoubtedly experienced.
We would like to thank all of our CASA volunteers, all of our donors, and all of
the people who help spread the word about our cause. ...And next time you are feeling
particularly positive and resilient on a bright sunny day remember to reach out
and check in on those who are near and dear to you because now you know that the
simple act of friendship can literally save lives.
As always, thank you for making a difference in (and maybe even helping to save)
the lives of foster children.
Speaking of making a difference, we are looking forward to our dinner and auction
on September 17. We are moving to mobile bidding this year. If you are attending
the auction, please watch for an email in the next few weeks with instructions
on how to register for mobile bidding. We look forward to seeing you there.
Sincerely,
Your Yolo County CASA Board of Directors and Staff
Yolo County CASA | 724 Main St. Suite 101 | Woodland | CA | 95695
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

To Our CASA Volunteers and Supporters,
We are so grateful for YOU! On this year's May 4th Big Day of Giving, you helped
us EXCEED our goals. With your help, we raised $43,000. This will allow us to continue
working hard to build our capacity at an especially crucial time. We now have over
500 children in foster care in Yolo County and we have 116 CASA volunteers. A few
years ago, we set a goal to provide every foster child in Yolo County with a CASA
Volunteer. However, when we set the goal, we had half as many foster children in
Yolo County.
We are no stranger to obstacles and challenges at Yolo County CASA, and with the
outpouring of support we saw on the Big Day of Giving, we have no doubt we will
achieve our goal. Thank you again, and a special thanks to SunWest Foods and the
King-White Family Foundation for their donation matches, and to Davis ACE Hardware
their gift of seed packets to anyone who had shown proof of donation to Yolo County
CASA in the store on the Big Day of Giving.
As with many nonprofits, we like metrics. We can tell you that it costs about $2,400
a year to train and retain a CASA volunteer. We can tell you that we've doubled
our amount of trained volunteers in the past three years. We can tell you that foster
children who have CASAs have far better outcomes in schools and in life, citing
compelling study methodologies and statistics. However, sometimes personal stories
are most illustrative of success. In last month's Yolo County CASA Davis Enterprise
column, our Executive Director Tracy Fauver highlighted a very touching story. We
encourage you to read it here [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...o4AXkHUSffUfx_LpNA==]and
reflect on the fact that YOUR support helps us to achieve outcomes like Dorothy's.
As always, we've included a link to all of our latest Hearts of Yolo profiles in
the section below. Please read them and if you are inspired or know someone who
would make an excellent CASA volunteer, please note that our next training begins
on July 10. More information is below.
Thank you again... none of what we do is possible without YOUR SUPPORT. We are extremely
grateful. Y
ou are helping us ensure that EVERY foster child in Yolo County has a voice and
a strong relationship to get them through the toughest time of their life.
Sincerely,
Your Yolo County CASA Board of Directors and Staff

THANK YOU FOR HELPING US CHANGE THE LIVES OF FOSTER CHILDREN
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Yolo County CASA Supporters,
THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity on last Thursday's Big
Day of Giving. We are thrilled to have exceeded our goals and elated over the ways
this helps us change the lives of foster children.
We are tallying the final numbers and will have a grand total for you soon. For
now, please reflect on the fact that through YOUR generosity, you have given more
foster children in Yolo County the chance to have a trained volunteer ensuring that
their voices are heard and their needs are met. The resiliency and well-being a
CASA volunteer adds to a foster child's life is truly without measure.
A special thanks also to the King White Family Foundation and SunWest Foods for
their matching gifts, and to Davis ACE Hardware for their seed donations to our
donors!
To illustrate the magnitude of the impact a CASA volunteer has on a foster child,
we've included a video of Dorothy, a Yolo County foster youth who is now 18, below.
Listen as she talks about the ways her CASA volunteer influenced her, and again,
please take a moment to acknowledge that YOU helped to make this happen.
Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts. You are our #heartsofyolo!
Sincerely,
Your CASA Board of Directors and Staff
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

JOIN US FOR OUR 9 P.M. POWER HOUR!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are almost to $40,000 and this is our POWER HOUR! Will you help us in our final
push?
In just 24 hours, we've come SO MUCH closer to our goal of providing every foster
child in Yolo County with a CASA volunteer. We currently have 116 CASA volunteers
and nearly 500 foster children in Yolo County. It costs approximately $2,400 to
train and retain a CASA volunteer for one year. Just today, you've given us the
potential to train at least 16 more. Do you think we can get that number to 20?
If you have yet to donate, or are inspired to donate one more time, please act now.
The organization that gets the most donations in the 9 p.m. hour gets additional
prize money from the Big Day of Giving!
What if 100 people give $100 each? What if 200 people give $50 each? What if 400
people give $25 each? We know we can earn four more CASA volunteers today! Please
tell your friends. Please JOIN US for this final push. [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...s0u4nCepfS93st0SdQ==]
Thank you so very much for helping us provide stability and resiliency to our most
vulnerable children. YOU are our "Hearts of Yolo" and we are so grateful!
Sincerely,
Your Yolo County CASA Board of Directors and Staff
"I just like to set a good example for him, play sports with him, take him to try
new foods and
have new experiences. Foster parents, social workers, and other professionals have
big case loads and sometimes 'just being a kid' slips through the cracks. CASA volunteers
can help facilitate experiences for foster children that most children in a stable
home take for granted."
-Jordan Trezona, CASA volunteer
"I was adopted by incredible parents when I was just three days old and over the
years I've become more and more aware of how lucky I was to be adopted into a wonderful
family with incredible support. Many other children are put into vulnerable situations
and don't have the support and resources I received. Because of this, I have a heart
for kids in crisis."
-Holly Wong, CASA volunteer
DO YOU THINK WE CAN GET TO $50,000 BY MIDNIGHT?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

WOW!! We are at $34,000! THANK YOU for your incredible support. This means we can
now train and retain FIVE additional CASA volunteers for a year because of YOUR
generosity.
On the Big Day of Giving, we believe in dreaming BIG. WE HAVE NOW RAISED OUR GOAL
TO $50,000.
Just imagine, if we raise $50,000, we have the potential to train and retain nearly
EIGHT additional CASA volunteers than we originally thought. Join us in working
to close the gap between our 116 CASA volunteers and nearly 500 foster youth. Please
make your donation here! [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...39vAp7S_1H1jcs31cg==]
For added inspiration, here is a video of Dorothy, one of our Yolo County foster
youth who is now 18, speaking about her experience of having a CASA volunteer.

Don't forget... our friends at Davis ACE Hardware would like to thank donors who
give to Yolo County CASA by giving them each a complimentary seed packet in the
store today, symbolizing the "seeds" their donation plants for a better future
for foster children. Simply print your donation receipt and bring it to the garden
section.
And again, a special thanks to SunWest Foods and the King White Family Foundation
for their $10,000 match. If we make our $50,000 goal, we will have raised $70,000
in ONE DAY for our most vulnerable children. WE CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!
Have you made your donation yet? Please don't forget!

THE BIG DAY OF GIVING IS HERE! WILL YOU HELP US MAKE IT TO $30,000?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Yolo County CASA supporter,
We are jumping up and down and cheering! We just made it to our $20,000 goal and
are SO MOVED by your support!
In the spirit of the Big Day of Giving, we are challenging ourselves to see if we
can get to $30,000. With $10,000 more than we planned, we can do SO MUCH more for
foster children. It takes $2,400 to fund a CASA volunteer for one year. Today, we
have the opportunity to fund four more than we originally planned. Wow. Will you
join us and make a donation now? [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...1KSg8_d1_VLnKxjkcQ==]
THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for what you do for foster children. This
morning, Dorothy Gervais, a Yolo County foster youth who is now 18, told Good Day
Sacramento the impact that having a CASA had on her life. Listen here, and take
a moment to appreciate that YOU, our community of supporters, helped her thrive
through providing us with the ability to connect her with a trained CASA volunteer.
We would like to thank The King-White Family Foundation and SunWest Foods who each
raised $40,000 for foster children! Will you help us reach our new goal of $10,000
more? [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...1KSg8_d1_VLnKxjkcQ==]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To Our CASA Volunteers and Supporters,
Because of you, we are continuing to build our capacity to change the lives of children
who need it most. Your support has enabled us to train more CASA volunteers than
ever before and add a full-time advocate supervisor to our staff, giving us the
potential to increase our caseload by 40 CASA volunteers. We have also started
a new volunteer advocate supervisor program, stretching our resources even further
to serve as many children as possible.
We currently have 473 children in foster care and unfortunately that number continues
to increase. As is, we must at least triple our amount of CASA volunteers to serve
every foster child in Yolo County. While this may sound daunting, we have tripled
our capacity since 2011, and more than doubled our capacity since 2014. We have
hard work ahead, but we have no doubt that we can achieve our goals together.
The Big Day of Giving is coming up on May 4, which gives us a tremendous opportunity
to continue our hard work toward our goal of serving ever foster child in Yolo County.
Our goal is to raise $20,000 that day and the King-White Family Foundation and SunWest
Foods have each stepped forward to match donations up to $10,000. This means that
in just 24 hours, we have the ability to raise $40,000 for foster children. More
information is below.
As you know, all of these efforts culminate in training and retaining more CASA
volunteers to serve our foster children. Our next training begins on April 19th.
If you know of anyone who would make an excellent advocate for a child, please
share this information with them. Seats are limited, so applicants should apply
right away. More information is also below.
We've included a link to all of our latest Hearts of Yolo profiles in the section
below. Please stay tuned via social media for our new "Fostering Awareness" public
education campaign. Through this initiative, we will provide information about the
foster care system and Yolo County CASA that is not widely known. We also have a
new monthly column in the Davis Enteprise [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...viyoT-UqhbFA5gaCTw==]
intended to both educate the public about the work of Yolo County CASA and keep
the public apprised of ways they can help. [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...viyoT-UqhbFA5gaCTw==]
Finally, we would like to extend an invitation for you to have some fun shopping
for a cause with us. On April 2, Stella and Dot Stylist Samantha Ballard will host
a trunk show at Shu Shu Hanjani's home in Davis from 11 a.m.-1p.m. benefiting Yolo
County CASA.
Please join us! More information is below.
Thank you for supporting us as we work each and every day to increase our capacity.
None of this is possible without YOUR SUPPORT. We are extremely grateful.
Through participating in events like the Big Day of Giving [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...viyoT-UqhbFA5gaCTw==]
and our Giving Circle [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...viyoT-UqhbFA5gaCTw==],
you are helping us ensure that EVERY foster child in Yolo County has a voice.
Sincerely,
Your Yolo County CASA Board of Directors and Staff
appeal, which provides us with much-needed funds to grow our program and increase
the amount of CASA volunteers that we train. Please see our website [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...0_m3dy4LDcitDfz5xg==]
or refer to this section of the newsletter to see our first group of monthly donors
for which we are incredibly grateful!
In addition to these donors, three organizations stepped forward to make the holidays
brighter for our foster children. Tan's Orthodontics again hosted its "CASA Giving
Tree" where foster children's holiday wishes were posted on an ornament on a tree
in their lobby. Patients and members of the public fulfilled the wishes within days.
Similarly, the Hallmark Inn in Davis hosted their annual donation tree for Yolo
County CASA in their lobby. Hotel guests and members of the public were also generous
and provided us with greatly needed funding to grow our program. Finally, Project
Linus of Yolo County donated a handmade blanket for each foster child served by
Yolo County CASA. Read more about all of this generosity here [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...0_m3dy4LDcitDfz5xg==]
in the Davis Enterprise and here [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...0_m3dy4LDcitDfz5xg==]
in the Woodland Daily Democrat.
In 2017, we hope to continue our momentum as we inch closer to our goal of serving
every foster child in Yolo County who needs a CASA. We hope to train even more CASA
volunteers than last year and continue to provide the resources, training, and general
support that our CASA volunteers need to serve their foster children. We regularly
post our training dates in this bimonthly newsletter, on social media, and in the
local newspaper.
Finally, please save the date for the Sacramento region's May 4th Big Day of Giving.
This year our goal is $20,000, which is $4,000 more than last year. With your help,
we know we can get there.
More information is below.
Sincerely,
Your Yolo County CASA Board of Directors and Staff
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

To Our CASAs and Supporters,
What a year we've had! In 2016, we trained 59 new CASA volunteers, bringing us closer
to our 2020 goal of providing every foster child in Yolo County with a CASA volunteer.
Recruiting and training CASA volunteers is a complex process. It takes people who
are willing to spread the word and recruit volunteers. It takes people who generously
donate to our organization to fund our efforts to train and support our CASA volunteers.
It takes willing board members, advisers, and leaders to coordinate our effort.
It takes the CASA volunteers themselves who generously donate their time and passion
to foster children who badly need it.
Recognizing just how many kind hearts it takes to provide the support that our foster
children desperately need, we launched our "Hearts of Yolo" campaign in January
of 2016. The purpose behind this campaign was to tell the stories of the many hearts
who come together and make a difference in the life of a foster child.
Through this campaign, we ended up with dozens of heartwarming quotes and stories.
Stories about pleasures most children take for granted like flying a kite, seeing
the ocean, or going to the zoo for the first time. Stories about CASA volunteers
and their CASA children staying in touch for years beyond their formal case. Stories
about people who donate to Yolo County CASA year after year because they sleep better
knowing the cause is supported. Stories about the human condition at its finest...
coming together to take care of each other at a child's most vulnerable time, and
making impressions that last forever.
As 2016 comes to a close and we reflect on these stories and our goals, we are excited
to announce our new monthly giving program, the Hearts of Yolo Giving Circle (additional
information below), through which we hope to establish a diversified funding stream
to support our 2020 goal.
Thank you for everything you do to support Yolo County CASA. Without you, the lives
of foster children would look much different.
Sincerely,
Your Yolo County CASA Board of Directors and Staff

2016 ANNUAL APPEAL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hearts of Yolo Giving Circle [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...sD9lCWKsU9pHWuC5Wg==]
In the past five years, we have doubled the amount of CASA volunteers we recruit
and train
each year. This has gotten us 25% of the way to our 2020 goal of providing every
foster child in Yolo County with a CASA volunteer. To get the rest of the way there,
we must again double the amount of CASA volunteers we recruit and train annually.
We have just over 1,100 days to do it. Please help us achieve this as you think
about your year-end giving.
While we appreciate whatever way you choose to support us (one-time gift, legacy-gift,
etc.), we have provided information about our new monthly giving program below.
Thank YOU for transforming the lives of foster children. YOU are our Hearts of Yolo!
"She had four social workers and five placements, yet through it all she had one
CASA -- me." -Janet Fulton, CASA volunteer
"Through our years together, there have been some very difficult times, some hard
choices and a lot of abandonment. I have been privileged to walk alongside this
young girl and watch her grow into a beautiful, amazing young adult. It has been
an incredible blessing to be able to share in her journey, through braces and boyfriends.
I could not be more proud of her if she were my own."
-Maggie Sanger, Active CASA
"As a CASA, I have the privilege of being a dependable friend, regardless of any
other chaos in these kids' lives. I see the impact that I can have on one child's
life, and am so proud to be a part of the work that Yolo County
CASA does on behalf of these kids."
-Holly Wong, Active CASA
We sleep better at night knowing that Yolo County CASA is doing everything it can
to provide CASAs for foster children so that they have a sense of stability and
love. We've remained supporters of this organization for many years because we know
that each time we donate, our dollars will go directly to that and we marvel at
the selfless board and staff who consistently volunteer their time and money to
support this culture."
-Susan and Reed Youmans, Philanthropists and CASA Supporters
"Over the years I've been able to give my CASA child experiences she had not had
before. For example, she had never been to the zoo at eleven years old." -Beth
Canevari, Active CASA
"When he is comfortable and in his element, we can easily talk about the issues
he's going through and I can use this information to advocate for the specific things
that I know will help him thrive. The judges truly respect us and rely on us." -Claire
Tauzer, Active CASA
"Foster children have many adult professionals in their lives but CASAs play a unique
role. They provide personal support, friendship, and consistency, in addition to
important advocacy work. I often hear from my CASA children years after their case
ends. Those calls are extremely powerful. When I get them, I know I've made an impact."
-Stephen McCord, Active CASA
"I can't imagine why I wouldn't give my time and financial resources to Yolo County
CASA. The way I see it, I make an investment now so that an innocent child doesn't
have to pay later. As long as I am able, I will continue to champion for the training
and support of CASAs so that more foster children have a fair chance at leading
the kind of lives, both as children and adults that the support of a caring, trained
adult can provide to them."
-Ginni Davis, Board President
"As I walked her up to her camp, I gave her a hug, told her to have fun, and that
I would see her next week. She ran off as excited as most kids do, but as I was
getting in my car, she stopped, turned around and said, 'I love you.' I was just
so surprised and paused because it was her first time expressing any emotion toward
me. Then I told her I loved her too. In that moment, I knew how much she cared,
and I also knew how important CASAs are."
-Georgia Corbett, Board Member
To Our CASAs and Supporters,
We cannot thank you enough for your outpouring of support for our 2016 "I Am For
The Child" dinner and auction. On September 11, dozens of you came together with
us under the
country sky at Park Winters to raise money for the 400 plus foster children in Yolo
County. In the end, this was our most successful auction to date. As our biggest
annual fundraiser, this will allow us to continue our mission to provide foster
children with CASAs. It also puts us closer to our 2020 goal of providing every
foster child in Yolo County with a CASA.
The theme of the year's auction and dinner was "Hearts of Yolo" in honor of our
"Hearts of Yolo" storytelling campaign. Throughout the event, participants read
and heard about the work that CASA volunteers and constituents do to serve foster
children. Stories included CASAs taking their foster children to see the ocean for
the first time, to fly a kite, or to coffee... simple things most children take
for granted. Stories also illustrated the great lengths CASAs have taken to keep
sibling pairs in the same placement or visit their foster children, even after
they have been placed hours away. Perhaps most touching are the stories of CASAs
staying in touch with their foster children for decades or foster children not
believing that CASAs aren't paid to spend time with them. These stories, YOUR stories,
illustrate the incredible need for foster children to have CASAs in their lives,
and so does the research.
Foster children with CASAs spend less time in court and are less likely to need
long-term foster care. They are also more likely to pass all of their courses in
school, display controls against deviant behavior, work out conflicts better, value
achievement, and are more interested in their communities as adults.
Attendees submit their bids during the live auction portion of the evening.
As supporters of this organization, you are passionate about this data and it showed
at the auction as you opened your hearts and made generous contributions. Donated
auction items ranged from handmade jewelry to gift certificates for services from
local businesses. Live auction items ranged from the opportunity to be a character
in one of New York Times Bestselling Author John Lescroart's future novels to a
week "under the Tuscan sun" in Italy.
The generosity continued with Park Winters Owners Rafael Galiano and John Martin
donating the use of their venue for the evening so that every dollar possible could
go back to funding CASAs.
To read the Davis Enterprise's coverage of the event, click here [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00...b5S147iTBR14R6haQA==].
We sincerely thank everyone who attended the auction and those who support us each
and every day. We are deeply appreciative and continue to be grateful for the support
we receive. We have lofty goals and you continue to show us that we have the support
needed to achieve them.
In the coming months, we plan to continue to spread the word through our Hearts
campaign and roll out a membership campaign to obtain funding needed to grow and
For now, please enjoy our latest Hearts of Yolo installments and take a look at
our most recent graduating class of CASAs. All of that is because of the support
you provide during the times we need it most, like at our dinner and auction. Thank
you again.
To Our CASAs and Supporters,
We have great news. We are currently in the middle of training 14 kind-hearted prospective
CASA volunteers. As you know, we are 25% of the way to our 2020 goal of providing
every foster child in Yolo County with a CASA. This current class of volunteers
puts us 27% of the way there. This class will graduate and be sworn in by Judge
Basha on Monday, August 8.
If you are interested in becoming a CASA or know someone who would make a great
CASA, please mark your calendar for our October 11 training. The deadline to apply
is October 1, and more details are below.
We are also pleased to report that our September 11, "I Am For the Child" Dinner
and Auction has sold out. We are currently keeping a wait list for those who are
still interested in buying a ticket as we may have options for extra seating. If
you would like to be added to the wait list, please send us an email at rsvp@yolocasa.org.
This year's dinner will celebrate all of our hard work training CASAs to improve
outcomes for foster children and our goals ahead. We will also commemorate our
Hearts of Yolo stories with a new coffee table book, available for sale that night.
Speaking of Hearts of Yolo, please don't forget to read our amazing profiles below.
We continue to marvel at the life stories of our volunteers, donors, and friends.
Thank you for your continued support and for helping us change the lives of children
who need it most. As you prepare for "back to school" season with your own families,
please remember that your support is helping many foster children have an easier
transition through having a CASA relationship during what can be a stressful time
for any child.
Sincerely,
Your Yolo County CASA Board of Directors and Staff
"We support Yolo County CASA because we believe every child should have a strong
advocate and a safe home. CASA advocates do an amazing job of championing that
these basic needs be met for foster children, enabling them to grow and succeed,
despite incredible adversity."
Julie is working with Kristina Gerlardi from the Sacramento ACEs Connection group. We felt like it was time to reach out to the UCD community. We'll be doing another on on the Sacramento campus later in the summer.  Very exciting - we'll see who comes but regardless we'll keep hosting events. And for sure we will post a blog about it!
