UCD Becoming Trauma Informed

UCD Trauma Informed Beginnings

Students, staff and YRN members met recently to brainstorm on strategies for helping UCD become a Trauma Informed Campus. Several groups, organizations and individuals were recognized and will be contacted over the summer to help identify what is currently happening on the UCD campus’, what is needed, and what’s the next steps are toward creating a Trauma Informed Campus.

Defining a Trauma Informed University is one of the first steps. Although many schools, including UCD, have aspects of Trauma Informed practices (TI) a truly TI university is still a thing of the future. Perhaps the first will be UCD. It takes recognition, understanding, and commitment to a paradigm shift. From changing from a punitive, “what is wrong” mind-set to a inquisitive, “what is happening” thought process.

But before we get too far ahead of ourselves we need to spend time listening and identifying those that are interested in TI practices and policies and support them toward their goals. If you are interested in becoming involved, have ideas or opinions we would love for you to share them and help as we help our community become more TI and Resilient.

This is great, Julie! A couple of questions:

Who attended the meeting? And when was it? What TI practices are being implemented now? And do they include educating people about ACEs science?

Cheers, Jane
