Therapeutic Parenting - Children from Difficult Beginnings on 9/16 and 9/18

Join Foster and Kinship Care Education to deepen your understanding of challenging behaviors demonstrated by children who have experienced abuse and neglect in their early life. We will examine the variety of mental health problems presented by children in care, and the need to tailor responses to be helpful on an individual level. The presenter will be Ce Eshelman, LMFT, Attachment Specialist and Founder of The Attach Place Center for Strengthening Relationships. Please register in advance. For questions, please contact Cherie Shroeder at cherie@yolofostercare.com.

  • Trauma’s Impact on Attachment: Wednesday, September 16th – 10:00 am to Noon

A parent’s attachment style and regulation have a significant influence in helping a child regulate and establish a rhythm within the family. Learn about your personal attachment style, the value of a personal narrative and the impact of early trauma has on the parent child relationship. Adverse Childhood Experiences or ACE’s will be discussed and the imperative need to build a child’s resilience. You will take away skills to help create the groundwork for a peaceful, healing family life worth living with children from difficult beginnings.

  • Therapeutic Parenting Strategies for Emotional Regulation: Friday, September 18th – 10:00 am to Noon

Learn the basics of Trust-based Therapeutic Parenting Intervention that will make living with children from difficult beginnings less stressful and more manageable. Karyn Purvis and David Cross are originally responsible for bringing this attachment and trauma research together into a cohesive model–TBRI. I add some of my experience to that material and it becomes relevant–relevant to the lives of people who are raising children from difficult beginnings.
