REPORT: State of Babies Yearbook

ZERO TO THREE and Child Trends has produced a first-of-its-kind publication to answer how the 12 million infants and toddlers are faring in the United States. The State of Babies Yearbook was developed as a part of Think Babies, an effort to make the potential of every baby a national priority. The State of Babies Yearbook set out to create a baseline understanding of how young children in this country are doing in three key domains: good health, strong families and positive early learning experiences.

What we know about the 12 million infants and toddlers in the United States:

  • 45% live in households with incomes less than twice the federal poverty level.
  • 21% live with a single parent.
  • 9% live in grandparent-headed households.
  • 61% have mothers in the work force.
