Notes from Yolo County Trauma Informed Practice Collaborative – December 10th, 2013

Fancy name for a very informal group.  We met on December 10th to share information with one another about work our respective agencies are doing to promote trauma informed practice with youth and families.  It is our hope that by working together and keeping each other informed we can increase the momentum for practices across systems that increase resilience in the populations we serve.

Resources:

  • Positive Youth Justice Initiative - probation spearheaded initiative, which has brought many partners from all over the community to the table to consider how we can incorporate best practices in our work with youth including working from a trauma based perspective.  Check out their website at : https://sites.google.com/site/pyjiyolo/home
  • PYJI is coordinating an upcoming "Trauma Informed Care for Youth" training, which will be held February 4th and 5th.  There will be four identical four hour sessions, participants may choose the one that best suits them - 8am -12pm, or 1pm to 5pm on both days.  Flyers attached.  Be sure to register by January 28th, 2014
  • Jane Stevens has created the Yolo County CA ACEs group on ACEsConnection, a social network community of practice (it works a lot like Facebook) for people who are implementing trauma-informed/resilience-building practices. To date, it has 1,752 participants from across the US and the world. Please join by going to ACEsConnection.com and signing up
  • Joyce Dorado - potential kick-off speaker for a four hour trauma informed care workshop as part of the Child Sex Abuse Conference on April 5th.  There will likely also be room for a panel (or two?) from Yolo County (maybe surrounding counties, if there's trauma-informed practices going on somewhere else?) that address how juvenile justice, health, education, etc. are implementing trauma-informed/resilience-building practices.
  • Parent University - potential forum for spreading the word in the community
  • Yolo Children's Movement - a collaboration spearheaded by the Yolo County Children's Alliance and First Five
  • Yolo County Children's Alliance Family Resource Centers
  • RISE, Inc. - reaching the Capay community
  • Yolo Family Strengthening Network collaborative - Trish Staniosis (Trish.Stanionis@yolofamily.org) of the Yolo Family Service Agency is very involved in this.
  • The Purple Book - two books, vol 1 and vol 2 of Helping Traumatized Children Learn, how-to manuals that guide schools to integrate trauma-informed practices.
