  2. Updates from Yolo Group members

    1. Van der Kolk presentation - Tracy

    2. Nadine Burke Harris TED Talk

    3. Recent presentations

      1. Parent engagement night - Tracy (ppt will be up on ACEs connection site); survey was done through elementary through high school on climate issues. shocking that only 44% of high school kids felt that they had an adult they could go to with problems.

      2. School updates (Jane & Gail) - superintedent Roberson, Jen McNeil, Jen Mullins (counselor): intersection between TIC and restorative practices. Are other school districts getting involved? (west sac) . Woodland has hired a counselor through CCHC to respond on the spot to incidents. Schools have received restorative practice and trauma informed care trainig (Karleen) - all districts were presented. Ongoing support is needed from Yolo County ACEs to school sites.  Troy Allen (Gail) principal at DaVinci got funding to do more work and they have decided to have a train the trainer program to make it available for all in the district. “Toolbox” development. Robb Davis (Gail) protem mayor in Davis will work with Troy to develop a toolbox (Civic engagement). Davis Parent University  - Emily Ault can bring some info back to this (Family HUIE). Lynette Smith and Jerry Earlmeyer (sp?) from West Sac could be champions. Parenting classes are being developed by Empower Yolo - interested in participating in TIC presentations. cherie@yolofostercare.com

      3. YCCA (Natalie Audage): next step will have Sue Delucchi come to talk about TIC and how to use it in the programs that serve families. March 5th at YCCA. Emily will also look into an opportunity.

      4. Van Der Kolk (Tracy) - psychiatrist and author of “The Body Keeps the Score”.  The question asked “what do we do?”. Take homes: who on the west coast does something like this? Talk therapy doesn’t worok because a person who has experienced trauma is living in the limbic system/the emotional brain. Have to think about the entire body. PTSD: when triggered by their traumas, they are in the present/time is no longer a meaningful construct. When being retraumatized, it is reacting as if it is back in that time. Treatment focuses on are they in the moment and can they recollect the past trauma? THen work with them to put that traumatic experience to rest. EMDR: incredibly effective in processing memory and putting it to rest. After 2 sessions, you should see results. Adult trauma versus complex trauma - neurofeedback works for those who predominantly lives in their emotional brain. big difference between attachment and trauma. great book for references. Post on ACEs connection site.

      5. What can we give parents? (Irene Jimenez) What are the tools we can give parents now?  Jane - discussion about trying to hit all sectors so that we are getting everyone. Assets map: identify 6 parts to become trauma informed.

      6. Roadmap to Resilience and Community Cookbook (Jane): essential pieces. Colors help guide you to focus on activities that should be all done together

  1. Any other updates? -

    1. Recent Summit via First 5 (Regan) - TIC and ACEs dominated the topics. Cherie Schroeder starting to target childcare providers and First 5 in general is incorporating ACEs and TIC, K-12 also jumping in.
