The Motivation for Student Learning and Engagement

Engagement, relevance, and enthusiasm best describe my teaching philosophy. Students learn best when they are actively involved in the learning process early on. Engaging early learners within a learning environment creates an atmosphere that allows children to learn at their own pace, while the educator takes on various teaching styles such as the traditional and facilitation methods of teaching. I attempt to engage students in course material by using traditional approaches, which encourages students to utilize higher-order cognitive skills, and allows peers to utilize a more tactile approach to learning. The facilitation approach to learning allows young children to process content by applying their knowledge, and ensuring they develop increased skills for social and cognitive development. Children learn through play, while immersed in an environment that allows exploration, comfort, and self-acceptance (National Association for the Education of Young Children, 2022).

Utilizing differentiated teaching styles is a method to develop the learner's curiosity, and keep them on the continuum to develop modernized skills. Students can learn at their own pace, while developing social skills with their peers. Students become engaged in learning when they can comprehend the relevance of the material being taught. In other words, "how can I use what I've learned in my social environment." It is important for students to comprehend learned information, and make it applicable to their existing knowledge. As a result, students have an increased motivation to internalize learned material as a guide for self- exploration, describe purposeful life events, and how those events determine learning styles while in the classroom setting.

An enthusiastic classroom setting promotes engagement. One way to develop the minds of young learners is to create enthusiasm in the classroom setting. Educators can create a learning environment that conveys the student to be eager to internalize subject matter. Merely, creating an environment that is enjoyable, creative, and an environment that promotes tactile learning. Enthusiasm is contagious, and educators must pass on this feeling to create a structured classroom environment of learning. Through the years, the relationship between myself and my students has a significant impact on their education and learning abilities. Creating a classroom environment that exhibits respect, increases motivation for learning. A student's motivation for learning and success is driven by an educator who creates a caring, respectful, structured, and open environment geared toward learning.

My experience as an educator has been extremely rewarding. I have had the ability to touch the lives of several students from all social classes. My experience has allowed me to become more open to various learning styles and methods tailored for each student’s learning style. Each student's diversity has allowed me to become more culturally diverse in my teaching practices and provide parents with the necessary resources and support to increase student learning. Teaching is a ministry that reaches students and challenges them to become the best they can be, while preparing them for a future of excellence.
