Oral Health During Pregnancy

There are numerous changes that occur with dental health while pregnant. These include hypermedia gravidarum, which constitutes to extreme nausea, and decrease in dental health. Dental decay is common, as the acid from vomiting causes teeth erosion. Additionally, this disorder can cause significant impairments within the esophageal lining. There have been known treatments to decrease these symptoms from occurring. They include taking the proper steps to brush, utilizing fluoride tooth paste, increasing water intake, and properly gargling after brushing.

This disorder has the potential to cause concerns with dental health. They include severe gum disease, which has the potential to cause premature birth, followed by decreased birth weight. There are several preventative measures for hypermedia gravidarum. They include brushing, flossing, properly rinsing the mouth after brushing, and adhering to a healthy diet. In order to have healthy dental health during pregnancy, mothers must ensure they have adequate fruits and vegetables, adequate water and vitamin intake (Vitamin B and C), and a diet that is rich in dairy products. Lastly, utilizing mouth washes that prevent oral bacteria is essential to healthy gum disease during pregnancy.
