Hi Tina I am the Parent Resources Director at CPI (Child Parent Institute). Now that everyone has given you the evidence based etc formal info, I will add the informal info. I think what helped us be such enthusiastic implementers of the Family Strengthening model was that we did some staff trainings that were a fun way to learn about this model. I used some activities that helped staff think about what factors they had and how they could see that in themselves and in the families we serve.

So, I'm a bit surprised that the thoughts I sent to our leadership and later posted here on 11/9/16 for everyone to read are not mentioned at all. While the concept of looking at the original document for principles is good in theory, it should be remembered that at the last meeting people had issues with the original being "unwelcoming." @Allen K. Nishikawa Oh, indeed! The language in the initiative is pretty vague in terms of what types of programs and interventions are eligible for the YEPT fund, but it is clear that the funds are not to be used to supplant existing funding sources. That's not to say that legislators won't attempt and end-run.

@Karen Clemmer Thank you for this tip! It's definitely worth looking into Mendocino's efforts. Is 20% set-aside to come from local cannabis tax revenue, or from the Prop. 64 youth education, prevention and treatment fund?

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your story! The photo of your preschoolers is fabulous. I also rely on my yoga practice to help me cope with stress. I put on a " Yoga with Adriene " youtube video every morning. This helps me get my tired and achy body moving more fluidly, and puts my mind in a much more positive space. She even recently created a video called "Yoga for After Disaster":

I think Dr. Schdmit makes a great point when she mentioned that looking at the strengths and resilience that a patient has gives providers the opportunity to look at the individual as a whole person. I think that if a clinician or provider provide affirmation to patients on their ability to cope with ACEs, this will empower them to practice behaviors that are beneficial to coping with aces.
