Re: Sonoma County ACEs Connection Meeting

Karen Clemmer ·
Please see attached for the 10-24-18 meeting. Thank you @Michelle Dominguez I have a suggestion , as a way of accelerating the ACEs movement - would it be possible to have folks introduce themselves and share what brings them to the meeting - personal or professional (or both!)? Maybe they could also share what is happening in their work/world related to ACEs, trauma informed work and building resiliency? Additionally, I am wondering if folks who are participating on behalf of their...

A Call to Connection: Making Childhood Trauma Personal | Dr. Allison Jackson | TEDxRVA

Elizabeth Beaty-Smith ·
Post by Dwana Young of the NJ Resiliency Coalition: Silence gives consent. Choosing a story of silence raises our chances of mortality rates when ACEs are involved. ACE stands for Adverse Childhood Experiences. If silence is a killer then why do we do nothing? How can community help? Dr. Allison Jackson is a Trauma Informed Care Specialist. She makes a compelling case for, “connection as a cure” to counter a lot of damage done by trauma. https://youtu.be/-HG8H4n2j9I This talk was given at a...

My WHY I show up to do this work

Elizabeth Beaty-Smith ·
I recently read a quote that @Christine Cissy White (ACEsConnection) shared that says, "Trauma informed care isn't trauma informed, without the trauma survivor." No matter what degree, training, or book you acquire you can never really know how it feels to experience trauma unless you go through it. I remember when I first discovered I had an ACE score of 7; I had been serving the community by supporting resiliency, self-healing, and breaking stigmas around mental health. I came across the...

Looking forward to attending! I wonder if we might want to bring a gift that could be given to a child who is receiving family support services through Family, Youth & Children's Services ? This is a group of kiddos and families who are in need of support to stay as an intact family. When toys and gifts are donated to FY&C they are often given to the foster youth programs (which is great!) but kiddos and families who are receiving supportive services are sort of an outlier and not...
