Greetings...Wanted to say, hi and thank you for all of your ongoing group. I am an attorney with Disability Rights CA and am working to help transition those with developmental disabilities from the Sonoma Development Center back out into the community. I am also a former SF Public Defender who has worked with our youth who have developmental as well as mental health disabilities. Local Sonoma County folks are hungry for resources to implement the "Strengthening Families" framework. Upstream Investments, First Five and Public Health's Maternal Child Adolescent Health teams offered recent training on Strengthening Families. All events immediately "sold out." How terrific that Karen shares a resource for how we can continue to learn more via this great website!

Forgot to ask: Has NACCHO had presentations about ACEs at its conferences, or is it integrating the science of human development into its work? Also, re economics....Economist James Heckman has done a LOT of work in this area -- he and Felitti know each other. Check out his web site. The Ella Baker Center did an analysis of the cost of incarceration on families. The federal government is starting to study the health benefits and screening and linking to social services. Thank you Karen, Most people don’t understand this kind of PTSD. My sister lost her home in Journey’s End and everything she owned. She got out out with her life and two of her three cats. Poor little “Betty” died in the fire. My sister now lives in Minnesota. There was a fire (actually many over the last few weeks) in a wooded area here in Lake County, where 67% of our county has burned. When some people, new to the area, were told to pack a bag and get out they scoffed at the suggestion...
