The University Senate is proud to honor Dr. Audrey Hokoda -- the 2018-19 recipient of the Senate Excellence in Teaching Award. As the awardee, Professor Hokoda will be recognized by the title Senate Distinguished Professor.
Please join us from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, at Templo Mayor (in the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union) to honor Professor Hokoda.
Professor Hokoda will be joined by academic colleagues, community representatives, and students who have been partners in her work in youth violence prevention, specifically on bullying, teen dating violence and domestic violence.
Professor Hokoda's presentation is titled Embracing SDSU’s Commitment to Serving the Community: Addressing Trauma with Hearts and Minds. She will be joined by academic colleagues, community representatives, and students who have been partners in her work in youth violence prevention, specifically on bullying, teen dating violence and domestic violence.
They will share their perspectives on community-based service learning and applied research; interdisciplinary university-community partnerships that promote trauma-informed policies and practices; and the ways in which humility, compassion and relationship-building can foster student success and better serve children and families.
Professor Hokoda has taught at SDSU for 25 years in the Departments of Psychology and Child and Family Development. She earned her BS in psychobiology at UCLA and her MA and PhD in clinical psychology at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She and Chris, her husband of 35 years, have raised two children, Laura and Kevin, in Rancho Peñasquitos.
