Push begins to coordinate mental health, law efforts (The San Diego Union-Tribune)
Stephan said the effort comes at an ideal time, as the county Board of Supervisors has increased funding for mental health services in San Diego. Stephan said money also could be coming from Proposition 47, a 2014 initiative that reduced certain drug possession felonies and other crimes to misdemeanors, which led to reduced sentences for some inmates. California issues update on state residents' ACE scores from 2011 & 2013 surveys
The latest adverse childhood experiences survey from the California Department of Public Health shows that 42% of the population has an ACE score of 3 or higher; 16% have an ACE score of 4 or higher. Shelter for homeless youth reopens (fox5sandiego.com)
The Urban Street Angels Homeless Youth Shelter is back up and running after it suspended operations because of a lack of money. Services include warm meals, minor medical help, hair cuts, showers and computer access for employment opportunities. More than 3,000 young people sleep on the streets of San Diego every night, according to Urban Angels. Once a week on Tuesdays, youth from 17-25 years old receive shelter overnight at the Mission Gathering Church from 6 p.m. until 9 a.m. Wednesday.
