Two New Grant Opportunities for Youth Development and Diversion Services
In 2019, more than $40 million will become available to fund community-based, culturally rooted, trauma-informed services for youth in California as alternatives to arrest and incarceration. Thousands of California youth are arrested every year for low-level offenses. Youth who are arrested or incarcerated for low-level offenses are less likely to graduate high school, more likely to suffer negative health-outcomes, and more likely to have later contact with the justice system.

Like Charlie and Nicole, we have history, we share a child, and we both want our child to be raised in an environment where she can thrive. Yes! The Compton lawsuit is huge. The momentum is building! As we've covered in previous stories on the education front, school wide transformation is most effective when social emotional learning, restorative, and trauma-informed approaches are interwoven into every level of the system, from janitor to teachers to students to parents to principals. Thanks so much for sharing, Pam. This is such a wonderful resource. I had not seen this one. It is a follow up to another video made last year by the NCTSN called Safe Spaces. Safe Places: Creating Welcoming and Inclusive Environments for Traumatized LGBTQ Youth. This video is a bit longer (25 minutes) and features the same youth, but also has some great suggestions from professionals on how to create safe spaces for LGBTQ youth. Here is a link to that video
