The Number of Youth in Juvenile Detention in California Has Quietly Plummeted (voiceofsandiego.org)
San Diego County’s four detention facilities can hold 855 young people. Getting on the Same Page: Developing a Strategic Plan
Plans change. That was a key lesson learned by the San Diego Trauma-Informed Guide Team (SD-TIGT) as the group worked to hone a strategic plan. The network had begun as a grass-roots collaborative, and members wanted to preserve that sense of openness and inclusion. At the same time, with Harmonium, Inc., as the backbone organization and the MARC grant as an impetus, the network also needed structure, goals and clearly defined roles. We sit, knowing the many tools we can offer to help this hurting person cope, heal and recover. We validate, affirm and offer hope for a better future. We know we can help. We have gold to give them. It's Been a Rough Road for Program to Get Addicted Offenders Off the Street [Voice of San Diego]
More than two years into the city attorney’s S.M.A.R.T program, which connects people who have a string of misdemeanor arrests with addiction treatment and housing, only a handful of clients have graduated and the city has struggled to expand the program despite significant investment. City attorneys say the outcomes reflect the challenges of an especially vulnerable population. Re: Art therapy as an intervention with ACEs
Hi Betsy and welcome to ACEs Connection! There is a lot of great work happening around San Diego County, including in the education system. I myself do not work in the school system, but am connected with others who do. I would be happy to connect you with some folks that might be able to point you in the right direction if you are interested. I'm a big believer in art therapy and other "non traditional" methods of therapeutic intervention. Great article too! Feel free to connect with me...
