No expulsions for students in Lincoln brawl (sandiegouniontribune.com)

Standing alongside church leaders, San Diego Unified officials Friday vowed not to expel students involved in last week’s brawl at Lincoln High School, regardless of the findings of the ongoing criminal investigation — in the name of restorative justice. Superintendent Cindy Marten said she hopes students facing charges in Juvenile Court over the Feb. 26 fight are back in school Monday. The fight resulted in the injury of a school police officer and a student getting hit with a Taser.

From what I've observed, Restorative Justice (RJ) holds offenders accountable in powerful ways that traditional sentencing does not. That is, the offenders would take responsibility, take part in facilitated gatherings to see what can be done to make amends, and work towards reconciliation.
