SD-TIGT Strategic Plan Update

On July 1, 2016, the San Diego Trauma-Informed Guide Team (SD-TIGT) and San Diego Mobilizing Action for Resilient Communities (MARC) team presented an initial draft of the 2016-2018 Strategic Plan to 19 members.

The SD-TIGT is an inclusive, grassroots network that is concerned with expanding the work of the San Diego region to promote trauma informed practices.  Heidi Echeverria, MARC Project Manager at Harmonium shared the following highlights from the strategic plan:

Mission Statement

Promoting trauma-informed services in San Diego region through collaboration, advocacy, and education.

Vision Statement

A resilient world where families thrive.

Goals of the SD-TIGT

  1. Expand the SD-TIGT.
  2. Strengthen the capacity of the SD-TIGT to promote resilience and prevent/ reduce ACEs.
  3. Enhance the capacity of the SD-TIGT members to influence system change for policy, program, and practice level.
  4. Complement and expand upon the goals of the Building Healthy Communities initiative- specific to youth and resident leadership.

Those in attendance were able to give feedback on the different components of the strategic plan as well as elucidate further the goals. The Ad Hoc committee developing the strategic plan will continue to meet in order to integrate feedback into the strategic plan in the hopes of having a final draft by the September meeting. Some of the feedback received included:

  • Vision statement should read families and communities.
  • Strategic plan should say that we are addressing trauma across lifespan.
  • Cultural relevancy- Is “trauma informed” language that is recognized by all communities? What language can we use to be more inclusive?
  • Political advocacy and systems change- Is the SD-TIGT pursuing policy change? If so, is it doing so as a collective or as individuals?
  • Can the SD-TIGT become a partner of Live Well San Diego?

The SD-TIGT is proud to invite every member of the San Diego region to participate in the SD-TIGT and hopes that you will be in attendance September 2, 2016 at the San Diego Center for Children from 12:30 to 2:00 PM.
