San Diego playwright Anita Simons shares her premier work, This We'll Defend, about the epidemic of Military Sexual Trauma

The American History Theater is proud to announce its first live play since the onset of COVID19 with "THIS WE’LL DEFEND", a military-inspired show opening December 3 at Light Box Theater in the Arts District Liberty Station, written by local playwright Anita Yellin Simons and directed by Missy Malloy.

Simons began writing the play in 2009 when she learned about the acute prevalence of military rapes and suicides service-wide. In 2012, after several rewrites, the play became a finalist for the Susan Nims Distinguished Playwriting Award and won a staged reading with director Randy Reinholz at the Last Frontier Theater Conference in Valdez, Alaska. In 2013, "THIS WE’LL DEFEND" had four staged readings in Prescott, AZ and was a semi-finalist in the 2013 Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center National Playwrights Conference.

Doors officially open for "THIS WE’LL DEFEND" Dec. 3, 2021 at 8 PM at The Light Box Theater, Suite #205 within the Dorothea Laub Dance Place. The show will run for two weekends. Go to our website at www.americanhistorytheater.org to purchase tickets and learn more about specific dates and times.
