On immigration, Gore walks line between Trump, Sacramento (sandiegouniontribune.com)

 

San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore said he feels stuck in the middle of the political brawl that is heating up between President Trump’s administration and the California legislature.

‘We live in a city that’s adjacent to the busiest border crossing in the world,” Gore said. “Somehow we manage to have some of the lowest crime rates in the U.S., so I think we’re doing something right.

“They always talk about the crime running rampant on the southwest border,” Gore added. “They don’t work here and don’t know the situation.”

“We are responsible for providing public safety services for everybody in this county,” Gore said. “Whether they’re visiting legally from a foreign country or here illegally, that doesn’t make a difference. We can’t create a whole subculture of people who are afraid to cooperate and report crimes to law enforcement.
