Medi-Cal expanding to cover more Napa children [Napa Valley Register]

As many as 1,000 Napa County children, regardless of immigration status, could get health insurance coverage under a Medi-Cal expansion plan. Beginning in May, those uninsured children will be eligible for “full scope” Medi-Cal health care benefits as long as they meet the income standards. “This program ensures that all children have access to primary and preventative care, such as vaccines and early screening, which leads to better health outcomes,” said Dr. Karen Relucio, Napa County public health officer. “This saves money by delaying the onset of chronic medical conditions and avoiding costs such as emergency visits and hospitalizations.”
