With Dozens of Orphaned by Opioid Crisis, This Maryland County has new Outlook on Trauma Services [baltimoresun.com]
By Phil Davis, The Baltimore Sun, December 2, 2019 Growing up in a Cecil County trailer park, Ray Lynn has been shaped by tragedy. Lynn went from seeing drug addiction firsthand in his neighborhood as a child to tackling the problem as a police officer decades later. “I can name you friends that are dead because of it," he said. Re: Dr. Vincent Felitti speaks in Hagerstown, MD
Brenda, or others, I would like to work with agencies and schools on the Eastern Shore to promote trauma informed classrooms. I work in a district that struggles with out-of-control youth but there seems to be little or no awareness of the impact of ACEs. Are there more experienced people here I could connect with? -Jonathan Williams, Easton

Re: Dr. Vincent Felitti speaks in Hagerstown, MD
Hi Jonathan, Yes, I do believe we have some other Maryland ACE Group members who have experience working with community on ACEs. I don't want to speak for them - hopefully they will see this and reply. Or you could write a column on what you hope to do and ask for input. I am in the last year of my graduate school program on Clinical Mental Health Counseling. It has my full attention right now! I have, from time to time, reached out to my own kids' public school system, MCPS in Montgomery...

The Loss of Cultural Identity and Neurological Dysregulation
Pre-COVID, I was invited to speak at a conference in Flagstaff, Arizona. During lunch the organizers brought dancers from the Apache tribe to perform. What we witnessed was so powerful and moving, that it prompted me to inquire about the spiritual significance of the songs and dance. They explained to me that after going to war, the warriors returned to their land and were gathered together to perform that particular dance and song. As a tribal African woman, it all made perfect sense. As...
