Three-million-dollar award will enhance efforts to advance health equity and racial justice (preventioninstitute.org)

Prevention Institute is honored to have received a three-million-dollar grant from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. These generous resources affirm both the dedicated work of our staff and the urgent need to fight for systems, policies, and narratives that support equity, racial justice, and community power. For us, this means focusing on upstream prevention to achieve health, safety, and wellbeing across multiple generations, especially within Black, indigenous and communities of color, and with populations who are systematically isolated from investments and opportunities to thrive.
“We do this work alongside amazing colleagues and partners at the neighborhood, local, regional, and national levels in efforts that mobilize for changes to present-day policies, institutional practices, and investment patterns that reinforce structural racism. As an organization and in our work with others, Prevention Institute is committed to intentional, ongoing racial justice practice as a shared journey. There is so much to learn about undoing harmful systems and what it takes to operationalize equity and racial justice. This precious award supports us on this essential journey.”
