With some help from both friends and strangers, a retired Blue Grass couple, Bill and Sherry Evans, are doing their part to feed hungry people in their community.

They have installed a “blessing box” near their home. Blessing boxes are similar to those familiar “little libraries.” But instead of distributing books, blessing boxes contain food to which people can help themselves.

“There is a definite need in Blue Grass for a blessing box that’s here all the time because we don’t have our own food shelf here; they have to go to Buffalo,” Evans says.

For children, Evans often stocks the blessing box with little boxes of raisins or peanut butter and cheese crackers “that they can eat right away because there are children who are hungry.”
