LGBTQ+ Youth Leadership Panel
Join us this Pride Month for a panel discussion with two LGBTQ+ youth peer leaders, Laura Yakas and Zenni Muhammad. Laura Yakas (she/her) is a lecturer and researcher who has written and taught extensively on intersections of madness and queerness. Zen Q “Zenni” Muhammad (ze/they/he) is a peer support advocate at HCRS playing a key role in developing a program for youth who are experiencing mental health challenges. During this webinar, the panelists will share their perspectives on the importance of LGBTQ+ youth leadership within mental health services and research, as well as current challenges facing LGBTQ+ youth and ways that peer services can address these challenges. They will also share about the role that intersectionality and other social theories play in their work. Webinar participants will have a chance to ask questions of the panelists and engage in discussion.
Objectives:
1. Participants will learn about ways that LGBTQ+ youth are taking leadership roles in peer led services and research.
2. Participants will gain an understanding of some of the current challenges affecting LGBTQ+ mental health and how youth led peer services can help address this.
3. Participants will be able to describe the importance of intersectionality in working with LGBTQ+ youth.
