Hi Dave, There is research that shows the more conservative the religion, the more frequent the incidence of incest.  I found this hard to believe at first, but as the years went on and it was accepted on all levels, I have come to understand it better. In the first years, researchers thought it might be related to" all the taboos conservatives place on sex". That view was written in several articles I read back then. More lately, it has become to be linked to the concept of male-headship, which is more pronounced in the conservative end of all religions, including the Jewish and Muslim faiths. Typically, the more conservative a religion, the more regulated and limited in freedom are the women, thus less empowered. When mothers are subjected to the fathers and fathers are empowered and entitled, children are vulnerable to abuse without the protection of the mothers. The research was primarily on Christian churches in America, I believe. The more liberal the faith, the less incest. What implications for our efforts are presented with this data?

Not just in every cutlture and religon Dave, but in homes, streets, public view, schools every where. Child abuse can be found anywhere and everywhere. I agree we must teach  every religious leader as well as the entire public the damaging effects of child abuse. The only effect of keeping it quiet is a bad life long outcome, with decisions, perceptions, betrayls from trusting yet again as an adult. My experience my body grew, but my mind remained a child, well thats just from my experience.
