Chaplain Chris Haughee ·
I am proud/relieved/gratified at finally being able to share a labor of love with the "PACES" community. It has been a struggle, the book project--yes, but just life and ministry in general have been hard over the past year. My family and I, personally, continue to walk the path of navigating all the complexities that come from trauma and working through that trauma in the context of ministry. I understand that many of you are in the same situation and can understand. The book, Hope for...

Helpful resource... a "checklist" for trauma-sensitive worshipping communities

Chaplain Chris Haughee ·
I am a practical person... and in ministry I am one of those that asks questions like, "Can you give me some examples?" and "How would that look in MY ministry setting?" While theoretical knowledge is helpful, and ACEs science is amazing and interesting in its own right, trauma-informed/trauma-sensitive ministry must actually APPLY that knowledge in order to help anyone. So, as my colleague Rev. Sami Pack-Toner (chaplain, Intermountain Residential ) and I prepared for the Mountain Sky...

Trauma-Informed Ministry preaching series--Bruised Reeds and Smoldering Wicks, Week 1, Jesus and the children (Luke 18:15-17)

Chaplain Chris Haughee ·
In 2016, on the "old" ACEsConnection site, I posed the question: Was Jesus' Ministry Trauma-Informed? What resulted was a definition for a trauma-informed ministry that has been used and cited by others (based on the SAMHSA guidelines for a trauma-informed organization), a post that has been viewed over 4,000 times ( LINK ) and a curriculum that I wrote as part of my doctoral program at Multnomah Biblical Seminary in Portland, Oregon: Bruised Reeds and Smoldering Wicks . [note: this article originally appeared in the print and online versions of the Helena Independent Record, Saturday March 4, 2023. LINK ] Carly Simon’s 1971 single, “Anticipation,” opened with the following lines: We can never know about the days to come But we think about them anyway And I wonder if I'm really with you now Or just chasin' after some finer day Anticipation, anticipation Is makin' me late Is keepin' me waitin' This is a season of anticipation and waiting. Many are...
