HI Marilyn, I have developed a 3 phase, 12 stage model that is spiritually integrated to addresses trauma, including ACEs. I've published, "Break Every Stinking Chain! Thank you for your prompt reply. I have my own journey that took me to the Hebraic Roots of His Word. I have worked as a substance abuse counselor and have attended 12 step meetings for many years due to my own addictions. I found the ACE study through working as a TRIAD Women's Project case manager. Maria, I have written a 145 page, 26 lesson, faith-based workbook entitled, Overcoming a Difficult Childhood. The curriculum is currently being used in 14 ministries in 4 states. The book is a combination of solid science and sound biblical principles. University of California will be studying the effectiveness of the program beginning Sept of this year. Steve I have wanted to ask you this and it is a serious question. In one of your posts you stated something like in a strange twist of fate it is us without high aces scores that can make the difference in the area of awareness of aces... I hadn't responded but had wanted to--I think you are right and you are wrong. In other words there are two sides to this coin. And there is the middle for those with a moderate numbers of ACES. Not just in every cutlture and religon Dave, but in homes, streets, public view, schools every where. Child abuse can be found anywhere and everywhere. I agree we must teach every religious leader as well as the entire public the damaging effects of child abuse. The only effect of keeping it quiet is a bad life long outcome, with decisions, perceptions, betrayls from trusting yet again as an adult. My experience my body grew, but my mind remained a child, well thats just from my experience.

There is a difference between establishing a safe culture in a church and just adding a new class to the list of available classes. Going beyond trauma informed to trauma responsive in our faith communities
I would like to share a great resource for churches/faith communities to become trauma responsive. First United Methodist Church is in Central Minnesota have been working for three years to become a trauma responsive church. They would say they are not the experts in any way although they have stepped out on faith both within their congregation and throughout the community. Their website has become an example and resource for many please check it out.

Need faith based counselor for Cambodian trauma survivor in Cincinnati area
My wife has been ministering to a young Cambodian woman who was brutally and repeatedly raped by her boss. She remains petrified. She will come into Cincinnati area for counseling and support. Does anyone know of someone in that area who can minister and support her? Thank you!

Dear Ernest, It's wonderful that you and your wife are helping this woman! I want to make sure that you know to carefully vet any spiritual counselor to make sure they are trained about the trauma of sexual violation. Many spiritual counselors don't have this knowledge and can bring damaging theological teachings into such a situation. You can also contact your local/state sexual assault center and they can probably provide resources for you as well. All the best, -Sarah
