Natalie Hurlock is a California Epidemiologic Investigation Service (Cal-EIS) Fellow working with the Essentials for Childhood (EfC) Initiative within the Injury and Violence Prevention Branch (IVPB) at California Department of Public Health (CDPH). This is a reliable on going compendium of risky or harmful behavior among America's youth and an excellent source of knowledge about social morbidity among our kids as well as a sense of trends. It should be mentioned that while basic demographic parameters are routinely collected, the CDC's studies do not ask and do not correlate the presence of these morbidities with current or past child abuse or neglect.

Important post! As an MD who has reviewed the literature, even though they list childhood adversity as a risk factor, it is often omitted from many epidemiological studies of suicide. I am not aware of any good data on the prevalence of childhood abuse and neglect in completed suicides or attempted suicides in youth or adults.
