The California Essentials for Childhood Initiative uses a public health and collective impact approach to align and enhance collaborative efforts to promote safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments for children, youth and families through systems, policy and social norms change.

Kidsdata: New Category on COVID-19 Pandemic

 

Kidsdata has introduced a new category to their site, COVID-19 Pandemic. This new category features data that describe child and family well-being in California during the pandemic. Kidsdata will regularly release new data over the coming weeks. Topics focused on are Education, Health Care, and Social Activities, Supportive Services, Positive Childhood Experiences, and other related topics. The data cover California and seven regions within California. At the state level, findings are broken down by family income level, race/ethnicity, and the presence of a child with special health care needs in the household.

Key findings from the latest data:
Education, Health Care, and Social Activities
47% of California caregivers reported that helping their child with education was a stressful experience and increased tension in the home.
Supportive Services
11% of California families began using social safety net programs during the pandemic.
Positive Childhood Experiences
64% of California caregivers reported that their child had opportunities for fun at least once a day.
