Education Reform’s Missed Opportunity: Young People in California’s Court Schools [San Francisco, CA]

At a time when California has earmarked millions to direct more resources to underserved youth in K-12 schools, education reform has failed to address the needs of a captive audience -- kids in the juvenile justice system, who attend what are known as "court schools." A new study by Youth Law Center finds that these schools are failing young people in juvenile hall, who are hungry to learn and find little support.

Speakers from Youth Law Center, EdSource, and experts and counselors from organizations serving juvenile justice-involved youth A media and community forum including a speaker panel, the results of a survey of currently detained juvenile justice youth, and youth-produced films about formerly detained youth
