California SB 607 Educator Call-in Day on May 22nd

California SB 607 Educator Call-in Day on May 22nd

Dear Colleague,

We are reaching out because we know you care deeply about keeping kids in school and ensuring equal access to education for all students. This July, a law banning out-of-school suspensions of K-3 students for "Defiance/Disruption" is set to expire. Thankfully, Senator Nancy Skinner, in partnership with over a dozen nonprofit organizations, has proposed Senate Bill 607, which if passed, would re-solidify and expand the law to encompass all grades, adding protections for thousands of students across the state.

The problem? Governor Brown has yet to endorse it.

Many educators and experts agree that suspensions for minor and vague reasons are harmful to both students and school climate. It is critical that Governor Brown hear from the voices of educators who know that kicking kids out of school is not the solution to behavioral issues and only further contributes to the school-to-prison pipeline.

Will you help us to get Governor Brown's support by sharing your perspective as an educator?
