Re: Building Resilience to Trauma: The Trauma and Community Resiliency Models by Elaine Miller-Karas

Deborah Bock ·
In Building Resilience to Trauma , the author, Elaine Miller-Karas, does an excellent job of explaining NEAR science (neurobiology, epigenetics, ACEs and resilience) in a simple, direct way. She presents complex neurobiology using accessible language and appealing metaphors. Best of all, she answers the question, "What's next?" Miller-Karas has developed a simple, powerful body-centered method to help individuals (TRM) and groups (CRM) recognize the effects of trauma in the body, learn to...

Thank you for sharing this, Jill. I suspect that the issues are just worse than in 2004 BUT we can do so much to support these teens... and more and more i feel like it comes back to simply educating them about ACEs and resilience and supporting them to find their way in a complicated world with many challenges presented daily to them. Shifting things in the adolescents of today (and parents of tomorrow) is the ultimate prevention!

This movie was SO GOOD. It was hard to watch in a good way. It was honest, realistic, and showed how / why those of us Parenting with ACEs can't always just do things differently even when we wish we could. I loved the honesty, the support group scenes, ALL THE TYPES of treatment, all the work, and though it's only one woman's story it does show parenting and I hope, will usher a REALLY overdue conversation with and by and about parents who are parenting with ACEs.
