The First Body-Positive Children’s Book Just Came Out, and It’s Exactly What the World Needs Now (msn.com)

Chances are, if you’ve taken a stroll through the children’s-book section of bookstores or libraries recently, you’ve seen a lot of bright colors and catchy titles. You saw some good lessons on friendship and manners, some lively adventure stories and some cute animals. You also saw a lot of pictures of straight-size white girls. While children’s literature now features far more diverse stories than it did even a couple of years ago, there is still one movement that hasn’t gotten a foothold...

Re: The Resiliency Workbook: Bounce Back Stronger, Smarter & With Real Self-Esteem [by Nan Henderson]

Mem Lang ·
So Jane, have you read it? I'm thinking it'd be good to rate books, in terms of how effective you think they are in helping people with ACEs etc. The backdrop is always ACEs now, once you know about them, I believe, so that adds an extra demand to how 'good' one thinks the material is.

Re: Resilience and Mental Health: Challenges Across the Lifespan by Southwick, et al. (2011)

Maxine Browne ·
I offer my survivor story to this particular conversation. The book is called Years of Tears by Maxine Browne. After 10 years of debilitating verbal and psychological abuse, I was able to break the cycle of domestic violence. Two of my children tell of being abused by their controlling step-father. One suffered a mental breakdown. We are all still suffering residual effects of those years of abuse. We have been "safe" for 8 plus years now. Domestic violence and child abuse are "gifts" that...

OK I see all the books now. Thanks for the information and link about war trauma. I appreciate this discussion about mental health care and look forward to getting into the book. The very system that has been established to foster healing and recovery often becomes a source of re-traumatization and we must continue to work towards a trauma-informed mental health system. Ohio, like many other states, claims to be a trauma-informed system, yet practices are tolerated and promoted that are...

In the middle of it now. Dreaming of how I can get it into the hands of all the medical practitioners in Canada. I especially value the one stop nature of the book. Nadine Burke Harris pulls together all the research from different directions into one comprehensive matrix that gives the full picture - and it's an easy read so accessible to most. So thankful for this resource.
