The upside of epigenetics - Change your genes, Change Your Life October 2018 release.

Nicky MacCallum LMFT, NCC ·
Hi all, Too often in our work we deal with the negative impact of epigenetics. Dr Ken Pelletier has written the book listed below, to help us address those negative impacts. (Full disclosure, I worked for Dr. Pelletier many years ago. I have the utmost respect for his work.) I am looking forward to reading it and learning new tools that can enhance resiliency and mitigate the impact of ACES. I have included the blurb about the book below, but you can check out his website and reviews for...

My Tears in His Bottle: prayers from the heart of a special needs’ mom

Chaplain Chris Haughee ·
Pat Hays has written a devotional book that gives wonderful insight into the joys and struggles that parenting a child with emotional special needs presents. Her book, My Tears in His Bottle: prayers from the heart of a special needs’ mom , contains excerpts from her personal prayer journal as she worked through the last fifteen years of balancing her calling to be an adoptive parent with the roadblocks she encountered in her neighborhood, friendships, school district, marriage, and church...

Re: Internal Family Systems Therapy (The Guilford Family Therapy Series) by Richard C. Schwartz

Hilary Jacobs Hendel ·
Hi Jill. Thank you for bringing attention to this wonderful book. For therapists, I think it is a must read and sometime I recommend it to “regular people” as well. As a certified AEDP therapist, I have fully intregated IFS both into my practice and writing. In fact, in my book that I wrote to teach people about how to work with emotions using the Change Triangle, and that you so graciously reviewed, IFS and “parts work” is demonstrated through out. And the C’s of the openhearted state on...

Re: Mad Matters: A Critical Reader in Canadian Mad Studies by LeFrançois, et al. (2013)

Chris Engel ·
Hi Steve, Totally agree with everything you said. If psychiatrists were to make the real changes necessary in the DSM it would have major ramifications on other sectors of society like the legal system and the military; it would ignite lawsuits and force the VA to give out benefits, money it doesn't want to spend. That's why the military gave Martin Seligman a $34 million dollar no-bid contract to implement his pathetic "positive thinking" model. A soldier sees his buddy blown up and he's...

Chris: Thank you for sharing this. The title immediately got my attention. As an parent with high ACEs, I have been constantly raised up by adoptive parents who have learned and shared what they have learned about love, attachment, trauma and parenting. It has not only benefited my parenting but my own healing. Because, unlike many of us with high ACEs in childhood, who have a whole family and maybe generations and generations with high ACEs, that's not always the case with adoptive families...
