How Stress Affects Our Telomeres, 2008
Description: Watch in this 6 minute video how stress effects our genes! The genetic structures called telomeres protect the ends of our chromosomes from fraying. As we age, our telomeres shorten. Stress (at any age) by way of stress hormones accelerate the shortening of telomeres. Neurobiologist, Dr. Robert Sapolsky leads the segment from the 2008 documentary, Stress: Portrait of a Killer.

Description: Nathan A. Fox of the University of Maryland describes the limitations of traditional early childhood intervention studies, which examine the effects of programs on large groups of children with the hope that one size fits all, and suggests that new interventions must take into account the individual differences the the ways children and adults react and self-regulate.

Dr. Robert Anda
Description: Dr. Robert Anda graduated from Rush Medical College and received his board certification in internal medicine. He completed a fellowship in preventive medicine at the University of Wisconsin, received a masters degree in epidemiology, and was accepted into the Epidemic Intelligence Service at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Dr. Anda began a collaboration with Dr. Vincent Felitti at Kaiser Permanente in San Diego to investigate child abuse as an underlying cause of medical, social, and public health problems.
