The impact of just asking

Anybody read today's article "How we Integrated ACE screening into the Health Appraisal Center at Kaiser Permanente in San Diego?"? This one paragraph blew my mind!

"an outside data-mining firm tested the incorporation of this medical questionnaire with its trauma-oriented questions into the comprehensive medical evaluation of 125,000 adult patients over a two-year period. To our surprise, they demonstrated this single change coincided, during the year subsequent to evaluation, with a 35% drop in doctor office visits and an 11% decrease in emergency room visits."

I found it so powerful when Dr. Nadine Burke-Harris talked about asking the ACEs questions being perceived as "invasive" and referring back to doing a prostate exam. "THAT" she said, "is invasive!" Aces are not just a topic for psychologists and social workers. The science shows that this is a health concern! Thank you for starting the conversation. You're absolutely right.
