Relationship Needs

Establishing meaningful relationships into adulthood is important. In fact, healthy relationships are mentioned within the framework of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs (Taormina & Gao, 2013). Relationships provide a sense of acceptance, commitment, and belongingness. It is a need for healthy human development. Here are six tips to invite more meaningful relationships into your circle. Rather platonic or romantic, relationships are paramount for healthy social development.

1. Seek to understand who you are as a person. Knowing yourself is key in developing healthy relationships.

2. Seek to understand others. Knowing yourself initially, followed by being in tuned to what your partner desires speaks volumes.

3. Relationships can sometimes present themselves to be taxing. Of course, allowing yourself the time and drive to create a bond like no other with your significant other can be beneficial.

4. Communication is paramount in any relationship, and having great use of it presents relationships that are built on trust.

5. Showing mutual respect to one another is key in presenting a relationship that will be built on love, honesty, and satisfaction.

6. Ensure that your moral principles are expressed and valued by your significant other to create mutual respect.
