Re: The use of ACE scores for individuals

Laura Shamblin ·
Have you joined the website NPPC ACEs? They have links to most of the relevant research there. I think your question shows a bit of a difference in thinking from those who are using ACEs screening. It is not as simple as an ACE of 4 needing a referral. That would be simple. It is possible that a person with an ACE of 6 has a good relationship with a caregiver, feels safe most of the time, has good school and church support, and no current medical or mental health issues. They don't currently...

ACEs-Savvy ADULT Primary Care Doc in Oakland or Richmond Kaiser?

Anna Runkle ·
Hi there -- I'm posting here on Ped community at the suggestion of a colleague who says this may be best way to find an adult primary care doc at Kaiser. I'm a passionate advocate for ACEs awareness, and a high-ACE-score kid who writes about childhood trauma. I'm also a Kaiser member in the Oakland/Richmond area, and I'm looking for a primary care doc who REALLY knows his/her stuff about emerging ACEs science. Happily, I am healthy today, but the health problems I've had in the past have...

Can Trauma-Informed Mermaids Help Children & Families? (New Kids Book Series)

Sarah E Clark ·
Dear ACEs in Pediatrics Community, We just launched a new trauma-informed children's book series called Venus and Her Fly Trip . The series has been developed in collaboration with therapists, educators, parents and healers and is designed to promote mental/social/emotional health, body positivity and imaginative play in kids 4-10 , with the ultimate goal of preventing self-hatred. I would greatly value hearing the feedback of the ACEs community on this endeavor, and welcome your ideas for...

Valid ACE screener and Research

Jennifer Blacksmith ·
Hello! I'm looking for research on the validity of the ACE screening tool or a modified ACE screener to use in our clinic. Also, we are wanting to screen all adult patients and then eventually want to start with pediatric patients. Regarding pediatrics, are there any data supporting a specific methodology? For instance, we were thinking of having parents complete it for birth to 11 and then having 12 to 17 year olds complete their own. Any research and/or thoughts on this is greatly...

Re: ACE's questionnaire in Pediatric emergency room

Jayne Ness ·
I'm a pediatric neurologist at University of Alabama at Birmingham and Children's of Alabama. ACEs in the Peds ED: I've discussed ACE screening with some of my Peds ED colleagues (and there's interest) but that's as far as we've gotten.... ACE screening elsewhere: Is anyone doing ACEs in sub-specialty pediatrics? I am looking for help on "best practices" in this setting. Over the past few months I have been informally asking an unscientific sample of my parents in Peds Neurology clinic to...

I’m kind of bad here because I didn’t read your entire reply but this area of somatic complaints and concerns over behavioral problems like ADHD - is really where I started asking the ACE questions mixed in with a bunch of other psychosocial questions - and the ACEs were always very high. I’ve been doing this since at least 2004. Rahil Briggs is awesome in this area as is NBHarris and they have a webinar coming up in a few days on integrating this into care. For Neurology - chronic...

Re: Seeking trauma-informed medical care

Veronique Mead ·
Dear Chris, I just saw your request and that you posted this question perhaps a year ago. Seeing no other comments I wanted to check in to see if you've found good care with someone who can connect well with your wife. I was once a family doctor and ended up retraining as a trauma therapist and specializing in chronic illness. If additional support is helpful I'd suggest your wife get support for healing some of these effects of trauma she has around events from childhood as they could make...

Trauma Informed PT/OT/Speech

Laura Crave ·
I'm wondering if folks are familiar with any resource or research for a trauma responsive approach to pediatric physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy? I know a passionate group who is beginning to integrate a trauma informed approach and would love to see what other work is being done!
