Hi, Just to add to my earlier post please. If possible I would love to show this screening to my University Cohort (1st 2nd and 3rd year Student Midwives). It is essential for all professionals to understand this information and be educated on the impact of parental/maternal ACEs and the intergenerational impact which can be mitigated by screening and having multidisciplinary supports in place! I’ve been starting to wonder, is pushing Pediatricians to screen for ACEs a way to increase the pharmaceutical market reach to kids? Poor urban and rural areas that have few resources generally do have one resource to “treat” behavioral symptoms associated with childhood trauma, Medicaid payments for psychotropic drugs. Thank you, Anna. Patients' stories are so helpful to all of us clinicians. My colleagues and I are teaching students and residents about ACEs and how to talk to adults about ACEs. We are also working on a set of competencies that we hope will be adopted into medical school curricula all over the country. Physicians are starting to learn - but there is a long way to go!

Hi Jim, I completely agree that poverty is important, but add these two comments for consideration: 1) The AB340 work group already recommended that trauma screening include ACEs and other social determinants such as poverty. We recommended for use the Whole Child Assessment, the PEARLS, or any other tool that a pediatrician wants to use that meet these criteria; 2) While poverty is important, it is NOT the same as ACEs.
