Dear Friend of Children,

At this time of year, we pause and give thanks for colleagues and friends like you who care deeply and passionately about the health and well-being of children. We sincerely thank you for your past support of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Friends of Children Fund.

This past year, the Friends of Children Fund again had a positive impact on the lives of children. Some of the grants that were awarded went to the Friends of Children Healthy People 2020 Chapter grants that focused on poverty and child health. Some of these awards helped to empower state chapters by sponsoring grants that address nutrition education and improve households’ food security in order to reduce hunger. Other grants focused on improving the health and health care delivery systems to homeless children.

In addition, the Friends of Children Fund grants helped fund 28 CATCH grants to pediatricians and residents that dealt with priority issues such as mental health, children with special needs, improving access to care, and support for immigrant families.

The AAP Friends of Children Fund offers you a way this holiday season to remember or honor someone special through our Tree of Lights campaign. For each commemorative gift of $25 or more, a light will shine on the tree located in the entrance vestibule of the Academy headquarters. Along with this light, a card will be displayed with the name of a family member, a loved one, a mentor, a friend, or a colleague. The tree will be on display from December 1 to January 12. In addition, if you wish, we will send a special card noting your gift to your honoree or a surviving family member.

To donate online, please visit www.aap.org/donate under Donate Online Now. For gift restriction indicate Friends of Children Fund Tree of Lights.

As you can see from the above examples, donations to the Friends of Children Fund help the AAP accomplish its mission to attain optimal physical, mental, and social well-being for all infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.

As always, thank you for all you do for children.

Wishing you all the best this holiday season.

Sincerely,

 James M. Perrin
