PACEs in Maternal Health

What if?

How about incorporating the 10 item Adverse Childhood Experiences(ACE) form into a prenatal visit. A mother's ACE score may help guide providers in determining if a woman's pregnancy is at higher or lower risk for complications. And perhaps....insurers would consider incenting providers to incorporate this into a woman's prenatal history. Remember, this isn't an extra screening tool, but another way to evaluate mom's pregnancy as higher or lower risk and put in place interventions and supports to promote a better birth outcome! State of Colorado has demonstrated the value in the Maternal Mortality Prevention Project...and it is recommendation #3.   And as Jane has reminded me, just because a woman has a high ACE score, it doesn't mean she is in immedate crisis, thus requiring intervention! Providers may see this as another screening tool in which they need a protocol and referral resources. Not true. Message me if you want to see more!
